Site design and building

Most people want a website designed from scratch, and for first-timers we offer a complete package that takes the raw content from you and delivers a website that's up and running on the internet.

Having discussed to your detailed requirements, we will prepare a design in graphic (usually jpg) form for your approval. Then the site will be built and uploaded to the web.

Initially you will need to supply a copy of the proposed content – the words and illustrations – and any ideas you have of how you want the site to look.

Domain names and hosting

We can provide domain names and hosting separately from web design, for example if you have a site already but want to change host or want a new domain name.

Please be aware that if you want a new site plus hosting, we strongly recommend that you speak to us first before being tempted to buy a domain name separately, however cheap it may be. Our hosting packages usually contain a free domain name, so any money spent acquiring it elsewhere may be completely wasted, on top of which, you may incur additional charges and delays for transferring it to the host your new site uses.

DOMAIN NAMES come included within the cost of most of our hosting packages. If you require a domain name without hosting, or to be redirected to an existing host, we can arrange this. Prices for uk domain names start from around £3 per year, with a one-off set-up fee of £40. Within this price comes domain name parking, naming authority fees paid, website redirection, email redirection and transfer to the domain name server as required.

HOSTING can be arranged for a website that already exists. We recommend Linux hosting, with basic packages starting from about £90 initially, then an annual fee of about £25. Windows hosting is also available. A domain name – new or transferred in – is included.

Site maintenance

Managing your site, making routine changes, updating text or pictures etc will vary in cost depending on the size and complexity of the site. Ask about annual or monthly contracts to manage and maintain an existing site.

Search engine optimisation

When our sites are designed, they include various tags and features to help ensure maximum coverage by search engines. This optimisation service is available for any website.

Please be aware that there are numerous companies that will cold-call to try to sell you search engine optimisation services with plausible-sounding technical claims, demonstrations that seem impressive and promises that your site will appear on numerous search engines or higher up the ranking of the main search engines. Many such claims are completely fraudulent, designed to con those who don't understand the technicalities into parting with a lot of money for a service that may even damage their site.

Genuine search engine optimisation should be done by a web designer you trust and is likely to be at a fraction of the cost some of these people charge.
